LAMENTATIONS
by Luca Bonamore
What’s happening here isn’t just a rosy recollection of the “Opera Toilet Vienna”, lavishly decorated and bathed in sound underneath the Vienna State Opera junction, but, more than anything, a dedicated tribute to the most emotional aspects of queer cruising. Luca Bonamore, who graced the stage two years ago at ImPulsTanz in the duet Lapse and the Scarlet Sun with Lau Lukkarila, now returns to the spotlight with his assisted and kingly piece LAMENTATIONS. This is what Bonamore’s search for love sounds like, from the galloping escape from loneliness through to an extraordinary encounter: “Like untamed horses, melancholic and sauvage, our synchronised swinging flesh to the beat of pink drums. Nasty smiles, blurring trembling of aching muscles, to hold countless hours of lamentation.”
For the sound Zosia Hołubowska composed several songs, remixed their track ‘Lament’ (from Denomologia album), and created a cover version of ‘Because Tonight’ by Patti Smith, reimagined as an archaic ritual hymn.
Premiered at the Rakete Festival in 2023.
